As the Gulf Coast recovers and rebuilds, the Department of Labor has compiled the following list of resources to assist employers
seeking to find, train, retain a skilled workforce, as well as encourage further job development in high-growth, high-demand
industries. There is also a list of state Web sites where you
can learn more about the business services offered in your state and local area.
Business Information and Resources
- The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) for Hurricane Katrina Employees encourages employers to hire individuals who lived in
the Hurricane Katrina disaster area and lost their jobs due to Hurricane Katrina. The tax credit can reduce an employer's
federal tax liability by as much as $2,400 per new hire. Additional information is available at

- At no cost to employers or employees, the Federal Bonding Program provides fidelity bonds which serve as business insurance
policies that protect employers in case of any loss of money or property due to employee dishonesty. Additional information on the

- The Business Relations Group within the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration can facilitate connections for
businesses seeking to engage the resources of the public workforce system. For more information, visit

Connect, volunteer, or donate through the USAFreedomCorps. USA Freedom Corps promotes and expands volunteer service in America by
supporting Federal service programs, serving as a resource for non-profit organizations, recognizing volunteers, and helping to connect
individuals with volunteer organizations in their communities.
Hurricane Contracting Information Center -

The Hurricane Contracting Information Center (HCIC) is an interagency effort that provides a centralized location for information and
services available throughout the government geared to help in the contracting process. The HCIC is designed to assist U.S. businesses,
especially minority-owned businesses along with small and medium sized enterprises, interested in helping with the rebuilding efforts
in the Gulf Region.
The HCIC also includes a call center (1-888-4USADOC) staffed by representatives from different government agencies to provide information
on rebuilding opportunities. The call center helps businesses navigate the state and federal contracting process.
